Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is Messianic Judaism?
A.
Messianic Judaism is the development of a truly Jewish expression of
New Covenant teachings founded on the Jewish Scriptures. Though some
would view this as a new movement, Messianic Judaism is actually a
renewal and continuation of the first century expression of faith in
the MESSIAH YESHUA.
Q. Is a Favor Zion Ministry the same as "Jews for Jesus?"
A.
No. "Jews for Jesus" is an evangelistic organization based in
California. Unfortunately, "Jews for Jesus" is typically a
derogatory term used within the Jewish community for any Messianic
Jew, much like "Jesus freak" or "Holy roller." Messianic Judaism is
a Messiah centered branch of Judaism with its own rabbis, centers of
learning, materials, congregational confederations, etc.
Q. If a Jew follows YESHUA, do they stop being a Jew?
A.
If a Jew decides to become a Hindu, or Buddhist, do they stop being
a Jew? No! If a Jew decides to practice Confucianism, do they stop
being a Jew? No! If a Jew decides to follow YESHUA the Jewish
Messiah, they become more Jewish, (if that is possible and all
things are possible with GOD). If they are a man, they become more
of a man! If they are a woman, they become more of a woman.
Q. What is a Messianic Jew?
A.
A Messianic Jew is a physical descendant of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
who is joined by faith to YESHUA, The MESSIAH of Israel.
For a Christian's understanding:
Since you read your Bible, do you know who Matthew, Mark, John,
and/or Peter is? How about Rabbi Saul ...who is commonly known as
Apostle Paul? They were all Jews who kept their Jewish Faith and
follow YESHUA (JESUS). In other words they were Messianic Jews! The
New Testament was written by Messianic Jews referring to the
scriptures of the Old Testaments.
Q. Do Messianic Jews keep the Mosaic Law?
A.
Yes. Messianic Judaism teaches that the New Covenant did not do away
with the Mosaic Covenant, but rather brought it to completion. The
New Covenant is the empowering of individuals through the death and
resurrection of Yeshua and the outpouring of GOD's Spirit to keep
the laws contained in the Mosaic covenant. Obedience to Torah (the
Mosaic Law), however, is not the basis of salvation, which is by
faith in the finished work of Yeshua alone. The observance of Torah
is practiced only in subordination to Yeshua. Living out the Mosaic
Covenant, practically, must depend on the leading and guidance of
the indwelling SPRIT of GOD (rather than as a legalistic set of
rules). Non-Jewish believers are encouraged to keep the moral laws
contained in the Torah and are encouraged, as all are, to be
obedient to all of GOD's Word. Jewish believers are to additionally
keep the ceremonial, symbolic and festival laws. This is in
accordance with YESHUA's own words when He stated that He "did not
come to abolish the Law and the Prophets, but to fulfill."
Q. What do I have to do to get Favor Zion Ministry to come to
my church?
A.
First we need your Pastor/Leadership’s permission. We would need all
of yours and his contact information, (ie: Name, Phone #, E-mail
address, Physical address of meeting, a date/day/time. You can contact us by going to
the contact page and filling out the information then e-mail us.
Q. How much do you charge to come and share?
A.
We get expenses and usually an honorarium from the church. Then
a Love Offering from the congregation.
The reasons for the above we believe are Biblically based. A worker
is worth his wages. We have to live in this world, though we are not
a part of this world. GOD said not to muzzle an Ox while it treading
grain. The honorarium and the paid expenses allows the ministry, not
to be a muzzled Ox while it is attempting to tread grain, thus we
are able to continue to do what GOD has called us to do. As for the
Love Offering; Rabbi Saul, (Apostle Paul), said in a letter to the
Philippians (4:17) “Not that I am looking for a gift, but I am
looking for what may be credited to your account”. In the letter to
the Romans (15:25-27) Apostle Paul writes: “… For if the Gentiles
have shared in the Jews' spiritual blessings, they owe it to the
Jews to share with them their material blessings.”
Q. What do you do with donations, honorariums, and offerings?
A. What we receive, we give, a minimum of a 10% to the orphans,
widows, and saints, as a tithe/offering to GOD, through our brother
emissaries in Yisrael, 10% to the apostolic covering; then the rest
goes to FZM operating expenses, so that the ministry may continue.
Our goal is to give 89% to the orphans, widows, and saints, 10% to
the apostolic covering, and then the 1% goes to FZM operating
expenses.
